The purpose of creating a Body Dysmorphic Disorder Support Group is to start a wider discussion on this disorder to help others overcome BDD. I want to help individuals know they are not alone, know that these feelings are normal, and know there are ways to overcome this disorder. My senior design campaign creates a safe space in which you can talk to someone who has gone through and/or overcome these similar shared experiences with food, weight loss, and body images in general. This is a place someone can be comfortable talking about their experiences. Since a majority of people with this disorder also experience anxiety and depression, this place is anonymous. This anonymity creates a safe place for others to share their experiences without being judged. The target audience for this service is between the ages of 13-25, who have access to a phone or laptop. They are also people who are seeking help, stress relief, gaining confidence, and looking for a community.

Identity System

The identity system is used within all four of the applications. By doing this it unifies and connects them all in a professional system. The three main colors I chose for the identity system are calming and mood boosting colors. I kept the logo simple with a silhouette of a head with a brain to show that BDD is both a mental and physical illness. I used the brain in many ways on its own as well, such as in a pattern on my app and as a logomark on my social media posts.

Website Design

Creating a website is an important part of this campaign because it gives those struggling with BDD the ability to research and get a better understanding of what Body Dysmorphic Disorder is. The website is mainly a place for research information and tool to promote the app and funnel traffic to the app. On the website, it also has a quiz and frequently asked questions to better understand if you, or yours friend might have this disorder. It also has a section showing celebrities and influencers who have publicly said they have/had BDD, to encourage others to seek help.

App Design

The app is mainly used to chat with others seeking help in groups. First, the app requires the user to sign a disclaimer before having access to chat rooms. Next the user has an application process to go through in which they will give information that will stay confidential, about themselves to be put into age-specific groups to chat. In these group chats the users will have the option to chat with other peers going through similar struggles or the option to talk to leaders who have overcome BDD.

Online Advertisement

Online advertisements promoting both the app and website help with funneling traffic to both applications. Online ads can be placed in a multitude of places. I chose to place the online ads on Instagram, YouTube videos, and Pinterest because these are some of the most frequently used applications by my target audience.

Social Media Design

Along with online advertisements, social media promotion is another way to get people to visit the website and app, I chose to use an Instagram account to do so. The Instagram account promotes the website/app and posts inspirational, uplifting posts.
